Known to prevent and delay certain types of cell damage in your body, antioxidants can not only be incredibly healthy for you but delicious as well! Antioxidants are primarily found in natural forms of fruits and vegetables. Adding a heavy dose of fruits and vegetables to any diet is known to have a lower risk of several diseases. The more plants, the better! Antioxidants are also found in spices, herbs, and seeds. Eating the whole plant is more effective, considering the market is full of synthetic antioxidant supplements these days. There isn’t concrete evidence at the moment that suggests these supplements assist in the prevention of diseases.
How You Can Add More Antioxidants into Your Diet
-
Matcha and Green Tea - Look out for ceremonial grade Matcha tea options. Whisk some plant-based milk in with a little sweetener for a warm or cold option full of antioxidants.
-
Berries - Berries of all sorts - Top three when it comes to packing in the antioxidants and easy availability in most grocery stores would be blackberries, blueberries, and raspberries. Goji berries and strawberries are amazing options too. Try to source local, organic berries when possible.
-
Pomegranates - Eat pomegranate seeds as is or sprinkle them over a salad!
-
Dark Chocolate - Try to get 70% or higher for a higher concentrated amount of cacao and there’s a better chance it will be dairy-free!
-
Nuts + Seeds - Snack on walnuts, pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds, or pecans. Add chia seeds or ground flax seeds to your morning oatmeal, yogurt, or smoothie!
