A Wellness Cafe at Heart

A Wellness Cafe at Heart

P.S. & Co. is an organic wellness cafe that focuses on plant-based, gluten-free, and nutrient-dense meals. Our menu is filled with fiber, protein, and healthy fats. Each ingredient is carefully chosen to nourish the mind, body, and soul. We like to see our skin glow from eating and drinking delicious and nutritious fruits and vegetables. Our savory items don’t have any added sugars as typical restaurant foods tend to consist. If we need a sweetener, we use…you guessed it, plants! Carrots, sweet potatoes, tomatoes, or peas can be used as a naturally sweet addition. Our offerings are low in salt as well and you always have the option to add more to your liking. Healthy fats include avocados, nuts and nut flours, seeds, and high-quality oils. Our oils consist of organic cold-pressed extra-virgin olive oil, organic cold-pressed coconut oil, and organic toasted sesame oil. We never use the ever-prevalent "vegetable" or canola or grape seed oils that are seen in many establishments. You can use olive oil for cooking - just cook at a lower-medium heat to prevent smoking or oxidation just as Italians have been doing for centuries. No need to use oils marketed as "high smoke-point" or "low smoke-point, which can be more expensive and processed. If you know us for our sweets, (it’s in the name, right!?) we consider our sweet options as health-forward foods as well. These may not be the type of foods you would want to over-indulge on but when eaten occasionally, there is no need for guilt. Even our sweets are packed with fiber, protein, healthy fats, and superfoods. Whether you are cooking for yourself at home, using our meal plans or Prep, or ordering off our menu, we want you to take these pointers with you to have the healthiest lifestyle possible.

Benefits of A Whole Foods, Plant-Based Diet

Antioxidants

Antioxidants are known to prevent and delay certain types of cell damage in our bodies. Primarily found in natural forms of fruits and vegetables, antioxidants and phytonutrients from these plants have been known to show a lower risk of several diseases when eaten regularly. Antioxidants are also found in spices, herbs, and seeds. Eating the whole plant is the most effective way to consume these nutrients as opposed to being taken via a supplement.

Fiber

Fiber is always a tricky one. It’s not discussed nearly as often as protein is, but should be! Most Americans are fiber deficient but it’s an easy problem to solve. Nope, not through a chalky powder, you add to your water…fiber is found in plants! The #1 place to find fiber is through whole foods such as fruit, vegetables, beans, seeds, and legumes. Western diets typically have a high content of fat, sugar, animal protein, and starch. In some developing nations in Africa such as Tanzania and Burkina Faso, diets are shown to have seven times the amount of fiber than Americans, through plants.

Omega-3 Fatty Acids

Nutrients found in healthy fats, such as nuts, seeds, and avocado can promote anti-inflammatory properties. These nutrients contain polyunsaturated omega-3 fatty acids which are essential in proper brain and nerve functioning. Omega-3s are known to assist in the prevention and treatments of certain neurological disorders, heart disease; and reduce arthritis, diabetes, and osteoporosis.
